"Going Green: Urban Agriculture's Eco-Friendly Solutions and Impact"

Urban Agriculture
A new project by Paweł Grobelny has just been completed in Poznań

One of the significant environmental challenges of the next decade is sustainably feeding the constantly increasing global population. Approximately 55% of the world's population resides in urban areas, and this figure is steadily rising. Consequently, the current agricultural and food systems are turning toward unsustainable directions within the framework of climate and ecosystem needs. Many institutions, communities, and researchers are conducting studies and developing recommendations to solve this problem. The concept of integrating food production and consumption in cities is one of the proposed solutions that aims to direct toward a more environmentally friendly and sustainable food system. Referred to by various terms like "edible city," "productive urban landscapes," or "urban agriculture," these approaches generally aim to promote food production and enhance sustainability in city living. While traditional agricultural methods rely heavily on the intensive use of natural resources and long-distance transportation, urban farming expresses production and consumption processes near consumption areas directly. The declining population of cities is a significant concern for creating an "edible city," which aims to make urban living more sustainable by integrating food production and consumption. With over half of the global population living in urban areas, the current food systems are straining the environment. Urban agricultural practices may play a crucial role in meeting the growing food demands of an increasing population in the coming years.
